Residential Hurricane / Tornado

In Florida, your property is constantly at risk of being in the path of a hurricane or tornado.  One of the main reasons why the Miami Herald partnered with Maximum Insurance Adjusters to develop an Ask the Expert column for their readers, was to answer the countless questions that policy holders have prior to and after a hurricane, tornado, or any major devastation.

Once the storm has passed, the hard work begins. Negotiating your insurance claim can be frustrating, time consuming, and tedious work.  Often policy holders do not realize they can have Maximum Insurance Adjusters negotiate their claim for a higher settlement amount.  Handling your claim on your own could potentially decrease the value of your claim and/or hinder future efforts to re-open or re-negotiate your claim once you’ve accepted payment from the insurance company.

When you hire Maximum Insurance Adjusters to handle your claim, we will assess the damage to the interior and exterior of your property.  We will closely inspect every element of your claim be it your roof, walls, floors, boat, marina, airplane, swimming pool, or personal contents.  Our highly trained and knowledgeable Public Adjusters will carefully review your property for wind damage, water damage, and mold damage caused by the hurricane or tornado.  Maximum Insurance Adjusters will help you sort through the contents of your property and create a list of damaged and/or destroyed items.  We will photograph and document any and all damaged or destroyed items to assist you with your claim.

If you need to move off the premises, make sure you keep all receipts for hotel and food expenses.  If you have Additional Living Expenses (ALE) coverage on your insurance policy, you will be reimbursed for these expenses.  Once your property has been damaged it is important to ensure that it does not sustain any further damage.  Secure the windows and doors to prevent looting or vandalism to your property.  Damaged roofs should be covered with a tarp to prevent water damage.  If vacating your property, be sure to have the electricity and water shut off.  If your property suffered water damage you should hire a remediation company to dry out your property within the first 48 hours.  This is a crucial step in preventing and containing mold growth.

Before signing a contract with a contractor or roofer, be sure to consult with one of our Public Adjusters about the details and the limitations of your insurance policy.  Make certain that any contractor or roofer you hire is licensed and insured in the state of Florida.  Verify that the license and insurance are still current before signing a contract.

Some hurricane/wind insurance policies have exclusions and limitations on other structures, mold, pools, pool enclosures, and other areas potentially affected by the hurricane or tornado.  Hurricane/Wind insurance policies have various deductible amounts that can greatly impact your claim and ability to repair your property.  We work with you to maximize your settlement with the insurance company for the most money you are entitled to under the policy.
